The samaritan woman at the well

Today’s Gospel passage gives us St. John’s account of the encounter between Jesus and the samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. He speaks to her of living water that will take away forever her thirst. After some argument with Him she comes to faith in Him and goes off to share her faith with the people of the town.

Our first encounter with Jesus was at the font of baptism, where we received the living water of faith and eternal life. Hopefully that living water is flowing ever more strongly within us and we, like the samaritan woman, are sharing our faith in Jesus with others. Throughout our lives we will find Jesus waiting to meet us at different wells, in our prayers, in the Sacraments especially Holy Communion, and in our meetings with others.

Let us always be open to His presence, love and grace.
