Ordination day to the priesthood

Next Saturday will be ordination day to the priesthood at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral.

Six men are scheduled to be ordained priests to serve the Archdiocese. Included among them is Budi Wardhana, the seminarian for whom we have been praying. The following Saturday a number of men will be ordained deacons.

Let us keep them all in our prayers, as we thank God for this gift to our archdiocese.

Archdiocesan Annual Appeal 2009: Together in Mission

Today, the annual collection for the retirement fund for priests of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is being taken up. Our contributions will help to provide care for our retired priests who have so long served the people of God in our parishes.

Through their life-long ministry as priests they have given themselves generously and unselfishly. May we now show our appreciation with a generous contribution to the Retirement Fund. This fund is set up legally separate from all other Archdiocesan funds.

Father Augustine Onyiloha, who was in residence here for a few months, is no longer at St. Bernard’s. He terminated his position as chaplain at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital and has left the Los Angeles area.

Happy Mother's Day

I wish a very happy Mother's Day to all our mothers. You have a very special vocation from God you have tremendous influence in the lives of your children. Your love nurtures them and gives them a great sense of security. A good mother is one of the greatest blessings we could have. Congratulations and may your children always return your love and show their appreciation not just today but everyday.

Good Shepherd Sunday

Today in known as Good Shepherd Sunday and is a day of prayer for vocations to the priesthood.

Jesus has told us: “The harvest is great but the workers are few. Pray therefore for the Lord of the harvest to send workers.” (Luke 10:2)

We are facing a great shortage of priests in the United States. Without priests, parishes will not have Mass. It is vital that we pray and work to encourage young men to consider the invitation of Christ to serve the church as priests.
