Special collection benefits St. Bernard School

There will be a second collection today at Mass to benefit St. Bernard School.

The new school year is off to an excellent beginning under Principal Margaret Samaniego. There is an excellent curriculum that includes music, art and sports. Day Care and hot lunches are available. The school has technological improvements. Your contributions to the collection will help to provide some tuition assistance tofamilies who are not in a position to pay the full tuition, as well as help with some of the school programs.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Catechetical Sunday

Today is Catechetical Sunday.

At the 9:30 and 11 a.m. Masses, all those who are involved in the ministry of religious instruction and formation in our parish will be commissioned.

I am grateful to these good people for their ministry and service. May God bless them and those children and adults to whom they will minister during the coming year.

Please keep them in your prayers.

Request for cell phone tower denied

I am happy to inform you that the City of Los Angeles Department of City Planning, has denied the request of T-Mobile for a permit to put up a cell phone tower near St. Bernard School.

I thank all those who helped in the effort to successfully oppose the request. Those include attorney Monica Molina, the St. Bernard School Foundation, Maggie Darrett-Quiroz and the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council, the Glassell Park Improvement Association, those who participated in the hearing last November and those who signed the petition.

Congratulations on a successful effort.
