Father Leiker to take up St. Bernard parish admin appointment July 1

The archdiocese has assigned Father Tim McGowan to be the associate pastor at the twinned parishes of St. James, La Crescenta; and Holy Redeemer, Montrose. He will take up that appointment on July 1 of this year.

As previously announced, Father Perry Leiker will become the administrator of St. Bernard’s on July 1, following my retirement. I will be leaving St. Bernard’s on that date and plan to live privately in Carlsbad, Calif.

I am grateful for your prayers and hope you will continue to pray for me.

There is nothing new to report on the condition of my health. Thankfully, the hormone treatment I am taking seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. I had a three month check-up recently and the doctor was satisfied with my progress.

I hope you will be generous in next week’s collection for the Retirement Fund for the priests of our archdiocese. That will be the source of my monthly retirement pension of about $1,700.

God bless you.

— Monsignor Gerald McSorley,
pastor
